Today at work Christmas came a little early. A second monitor was installed at most of our desktop workstations. To be honest, I didn’t know we were receiving this upgrade and I wasn’t sure what the benefit was of having two monitors. After reading more about it online and working with a few spreadsheets, I was pleased with the results!
By having this second monitor, it has allowed for work to be processed more efficiently and must faster. For example, it allows me access to the business accounting system on one screen while having a related spreadsheet open on the other screen. This in turn allows me to view/compare data side by side without having to toggle between opening and minimizing my windows.
The short of it, this is a fantastic cost effective way of maximizing productivity! See attached articles:
So how ironic that you blogged about this! I am a graphic/web designer and can say having 2 screens is not only effective is truly does cut down time and increase work production. Having to work daily in multiple graphic applications and having to be available to receive email for approvals and edits is a little tough with one screen. I was impressed to see that the library at BSU upgraded the computers with dual screens for students on campus. HOWEVER, they made this improvement about a year or 2 ago and the second screen still does not properly work with the work stations in the library. Not sure why they haven't addressed this yet, but for now they are just taking up space and not being utilized by the students who definitely can benefit from this upgrade. Hopefully they get on this soon before the computers become outdated and the screens need to be replaced! Time is wasting!
